Korin Branch Plum Blossoms — Gold and Silver
Perfect speed means only this:
to already be there.
While creating this work,
I found myself thinking of Jonathan Livingston Seagull.
I wanted to express the power of thought transcending time and space
through a single line drawn in one breath.
The Rinpa tradition and Karacho have long shared a deep connection.
Patterns associated with Hon’ami Koetsu, Tawaraya Sotatsu, and Ogata Korin
have been passed down through generations within our family.
This work, “Korin Branch Plum Blossoms,” named in honor of Ogata Korin,
was created using two different karakami works in gold and silver.
Though sharing the same pattern, they were joined together through flowing, undulating curves.
The precision required in balancing and aligning the composition
made this an exceptionally difficult and highly refined work to complete.
Its finish was so beautiful that I felt reluctant to let it go as it departed for New York.
Jonathan Livingston Seagull taught me this:
Thought becomes reality.
And so, the works I deeply love—
if I close my eyes
and call them to mind,
they are always here.
Still here.
