Choemon Senda BLUE ART

Composition

Inspired by Piet Mondrian’s “Composition,” in which he pursued abstraction through the interplay of horizontal and vertical lines to establish a universal sense of beauty, I sought to create a composition using karakami.

While developing this work, I reflected on how diversity can be understood within the framework of contemporary society. I therefore chose to express a harmonious society through karakami by bringing together different materials.

The patterns on leather were created through embossing, and materials with distinct textures—leather and karakami—were combined. Through this fusion of different materials, the work approaches a new concept of contemporary art.

Rather than different elements dissolving into one another beyond their boundaries, each retains its own identity within its respective framework. Yet together, they create the beauty of a unified and harmonious world.

From this idea emerges a conceptual artwork based on Choemon Senda’s philosophy of “the beauty of irregularity.”
