Matchmaking, prosperity, peace and harmony

A continuous series of interconnected designs expanding in all four directions. Although it has quite a modern look, this pattern has come to us on woodblocks handed down by our ancestors in the Edo Period (1603-1867). With a power that transcends time, national boundaries, and ethnic differences, the exotic shippo pattern looks at once like a web of circles, stars, flowers, and crosses, and represents the wish for happiness to spread in all directions.
