At the Karacho Honten in Saga, Kyoto, various karakami can be custom-ordered to size, including fusuma paper, wallpaper, ceilings, various fittings such as Western-style doors and furniture doors, folding screens, partitions, and even framed items and art panels.
Karacho karakami, whose traditions have been handed down for 400 years, fits in well with classic as well as modern spaces. The traditional mica-printed karakami and the elegant white-on-white shades that accentuate the mica create a quiet space, exuding dignity and set apart from the rest of the room. Used in colorful, luxurious wallpaper and sliding doors rendered in distinctively modern champagne-gold or characteristic blue, karakami adorns the space with a unique worldview. Colorful and luxurious wallpaper, the beautiful champagne gold-colored sliding doors of a hue that did not exist in traditional karakami, and the distinctive blue karakami fusuma sliding doors create a unique worldview and decorate the space.
Our champagne gold karakami, in particular, serves to illustrate how we innovate on a daily basis as we blend and apply colors to complement the modern world. Champagne gold karakami did not exist in historical, conventional karakami; indeed, even the concept of champagne gold was unknown in Edo Period Japan (1603-1867). In the atelier, each piece is painstakingly, wholeheartedly, and individually handcrafted for each customer.
